Bike gang allegedly swats man with bat

Friday, 3 August 2012

A man was taken to the hospital after he reportedly was hit in the head with a baseball bat, according to a Des Moines police report. The man told police a biker gang was responsible for the attack. When police arrived at the 4100 block of Maple Street, Ronnie McDonald was about to be taken to Mercy Medical Center with an “obvious injury to his head,” according to the report. Police spoke to a woman who reported the incident. She told police McDonald was riding in a car that pulled into the parking lot, according to the report. McDonald talked for a short time with the driver while standing in the lot. As McDonald walked toward a nearby apartment, he stumbled. The woman asked if he was OK, and McDonald responded with a no, took off his hat and showed her his head wound. McDonald told the woman the man in the car had done it. McDonald did not cooperate with medical personnel or police, according to the report, but did tell police “it was gang related.” His condition was listed as stable on the report. The woman who reported the incident, who police said later “changed her story,” told police both McDonald and his girlfriend know who assaulted McDonald. However, they said they wouldn’t tell police because the suspect knows where they live and the couple have two kids, according to the report.
